9:30-10:30—The Marshall Digital Scholar: Adding Music Collections to Digital Commons/bepress

Thomas Walker, Musical Digital Services Librarian at Marshall University Libraries

Marshall Digital Scholar is the Institutional Repository (IR) of Marshall University. Often IRs are used to house the scholarly output of the university faculty.  It is not common for information such as recordings to be included in an IR.  We consider faculty recitals to be scholarly output and as important as the written word.  With this presentation, Thomas will discuss how the recitals are entered into the database, the metadata used to create access points inside the IR as well as the library catalog.

10:45-11:45—To Teach Information Literacy to Students, You Need an Arsenal

Sabrina Thomas, Instruction and Reference Librarian and

Eryn Roles Instruction and Reference Librarian

Marshall University Librarians created a peer reviewed Information Literacy Lesson Plan repository.  This ‘Arsenal’ of lesson plans focus on real life issues facing students today and how information literacy can be used to meet those challenges.  This session will discuss the reasoning behind the Arsenal, criteria for lesson plans, and the peer review process.

12:00-1:00 Lunch—Box lunches will be provided, please include dietary restrictions when registering.

1:00-2:00—Table Discussions

Bring you ideas, innovations, problems and concerns to the group— hopefully we will solve some issues and gain ideas. Some possible discussions are: Embedded Librarians, RDA, and  Marketing.

2:30-3:30—Marshall University’s Special Collections Tour

Prof. Lisle G Brown, Curator of Special Collections
