West Virginia Library Association

WVLA Public Library Division – Annual Report

The Public Library Division discussed the following topics:

·      Administrative Regulations - The discussion at the Fall Conference made it clear that we need to keep a dialogue going with WVLC in regards to the AR's.  Concern was raised on trying to build a support group within WVLA to help libraries raise their local income.  Discussed having libraries from NC and other states that were successful in pushing for raised revenues come in and speak.

·      Library Salaries - Judy Rule volunteered to coordinate a committee.

·      Shipment method amongst libraries - Discussed desire amongst libraries to have some sort of statewide shipping method to help with ILL and hold requests amongst libraries.  This has become more evident with many of the libraries in the state being members of an automation consortium.  The following items were going to be researched for the Fall Conference.

o       Research what companies in WV would do the shipping.

o       Contact library groups that currently do it, and the types of rules used in the process.

o       Research what the cost would be for the local use.

Sarah Cranstoun will be taking over as chair after my term is up.
