Spring Fling 2013

Spring Fling 2013 Program (.rtf)

It’s Spring Fling Time . . . mark your calendars!! April 11 &12, 2013 will be our annual Spring Fling conference at the Days Hotel in Flatwoods. This is an invitation to all librarians in West Virginia. I hope, as you look over the tentative session titles being offered this year, that you find some things to inspire you.

Our theme is, “Embracing Versatility” because we are gifted and we care about the people we serve every day. Libraries play a critical role in every community and more than ever we are called to help our patrons adapt to the fast-changing world in which we live and work.

Andrew Pettegree, Prof. at St. Andrews University in UK points out that the dawn of the age of print was a tough time for librarians. Well, this is our time and as we see the old ways changing rapidly in front of our eyes, it does not mean that we are walking away from the new challenges ahead. I understand, it is a tall order, however, as unique and creative as we are, I believe we can embrace the digital world and be more versatile than the librarians from hundreds of years ago.

Come join your colleagues and take some time to recharge your creative batteries, with great ideas for children’s programming, adult programming, and new practices. At last conference I truly enjoyed playing board games with my colleagues, networking and meeting new people. Join us! In the words of Public Library Chairs past; “come learn about new technologies and new tools, participate, share and grow. That’s what makes each of you such a valuable asset to your library, your patrons and your community.”
